Hand-tooled leather basket with braided handles and a brass nameplate

Repoussé leather, warm to the touch, built to be reused as a keepsake
The entry point into the house: a hand-tooled leather basket, generous and warm, holding five to six references chosen à la carte from across the eleven families of Zales & Rego, oils and vinegars to preserves and sweets.
Where a hamper gets discarded, the basket stays, its embossed leather and brass fittings built to be kept long after the jars inside are empty. It's the most direct expression of the house: no tasting menu, no ceremony, just a generous, clearly composed first impression.
All packaging materials recyclable in standard household streams.

THE ZALES & REGO FACILITY IN ALCORCÓN HOLDS - IFS FOOD CERTIFICATION · HACCP · RGSEAA
The Producer
Zales & Rego - Alcorcón, Madrid
The line starts in a botica in Mondoñedo, Galicia, where remedies, conserves and spices once shared the same shelf. Alonzo Rego carried the trade to Cádiz in 1776, then across the Atlantic to Veracruz in 1795. In 1888, Don Ismael Rego y Salcedo gave the house its formal name. Seven generations later, Zales & Rego returns to the old world, composing and selecting from a workshop in Alcorcón, Madrid: compose, select, preserve the excellent.

The Process
A basket, not a hamper.
Where most gift hampers are discarded within the week, the Mercado 1888 basket is built to stay: hand-tooled leather, braided handles, a brass nameplate that can carry the recipient's name. Five to six references are chosen à la carte from the eleven families of the house, then set inside a piece meant to outlast what's inside it.

5 to 6 references, à la carte

Hand-tooled leather, brass hardware

“A basket that gets used again is worth more than everything that was inside it.”
